Joel Grostephan, LICSW
I am the clinical director and a therapist. I see therapy as a gift. It's a way to learn new ways of connecting with others and yourself. I also know that the idea of seeing a therapist itself causes anxiety for some people for different reasons. Hoping that change can happen and that one can feel better is hard for many people. I work with clients' strengths to help them navigate decisions they need to make for themselves. We will not be focused on your symptoms or jargon if we can help it.
I am particularly interested in working with clients with a history trauma whether that be an event or a pattern of neglect. I am a student of Diana Fosha and other contemporary psychodynamic thinkers. I have done significant training and supervision with AEDP and ISTDP models. These models focus on tracking your moment to moment experience including thoughts, anxiety, feelings, and your body.
I completed my Masters of Social Work at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in 2011.
I live in Minneapolis with my wife, two boys, cat and dog. When I am not working, I am playing bluegrass and enjoying the outdoors on foot, by canoe in the BWCA, or on my bike.
